Diary of a Second Life Novice.

Today is September 17th and these are my notes from the class.

This is Bear Island where someday we will enact a case study http://slurl.com/secondlife/Univ%20Northern%20Colorado/62/131/25/

This is the address to create a Second Life avatar http://slurl.com/secondlife/Univ%20Northern%20Colorado/62/131/25/. So far we have three avatars created. Ann is Tula Button, Teklaub is changing his name, Linda is Proff Lorgsval, Pearl is Masai Yazimoto, and Suzan is Suzan Move . Linda does not like her polka dot dress and will change that as soon as possible.

Here are the case studies that we will try to enact in Second Life. Presently these are in a CMS called Drupal. http://www.akoism.com/casestudy/ . I think we can each take a script from one of the case studies on the Drupal site. Each of us will take a character from the case study. We will meet on the Second Life Bear Island in a "classroom" and see if we can make the case study work.

It is now September 24th
The class is now exploring second life and Bear Island. I asked the class to find a space on Bear Island where we can hold our TA orientation. We can build our own meeting place, or, we can use one of the rooms already existing. I am confused about what takes place between logging into the website www.Secondlife.com
and teleporting to Bear Island (which transfers you into the Second Life application). Is the application communicating with Linden Labs??? Must be since people are walking around in real time.

I just emailed Tod Sedbrook to tell him that we are now exploring the islands. Tod used grant money to purchase the island and create the buildings. He is interested in starting some research related to Second Life.
